Crane Operator Certification

Back in late 2001, ANSI and even OSHA set fourth a new requirement within the crane operator industry that requires crane operators to receive proper training and authorization from their employer or hired company prior to operating a crane. OSHA has an agreement with the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators. This is a national certification program that meets ANSI and OSHA requirements for crane operator training. The NCCCO is an independent and non profit organization that started back in January of 1995 towards helping establish and administrate a national program for providing a training and certificate of crane operators. The purpose of this organization is to help reduce the risk of injury or loss, reduce the number of accidents that can occur when operating a crane, an advanced and more consistent training program, and an expanded and more organized crane operator job placement.

Crane Operator Schools

There are quite a few very reputable crane operator schools within the United States. One of the more well known crane operator schools is a facility located in California, called California Crane Operator School. This facility provides crane operator training and crane operator certification.

Their leading crane operator training course is a very quick but detailed 16 hour class that covers the telescopic boom crane and both small and large fixed cab and swing cab telescopic boom cranes. Their crane operator certification school has an open enrollment and provides two classes each month. They have locations in both Northern California as well as Southern California.

Another company that may interest you is the ATS Heavy Equipment Operator School. ATS is widely known for their successful placement with heavy equipment jobs. They provide a leading and widely accepted Mobile Crane Operations Program. There are quite a few crane operator training programs available. These differ slightly from crane operator schools. The main difference is that most of these type of training courses can be done from remote locations, some of which can be done from your own home. Other courses are designed for larger scale buinsesses where the training facility can come on-site to various job site locations.

Crane Tech is one of the more popular facilities that provide a very wide range of crane operator training courses. These courses range from applied rigging practices, mobile cranes and rigging, mobile crane NCCCO Prep testing, mobile crane inspection, overhead crane operator prep test, and much more. They have over 15 crane operator training courses available.

Another excellent company who provide crane operator training is called Morris Cranes. They have an entire crane operator training section on their company web site. Morris Crane was established in 1962 and has a very well known reputation for producing very skilled and qualified crane operators.
